I’m excited to announce a partnership with Simple Beauty Minerals! My first forays into removing toxins from my life involved making sure the things I put on my body aren’t full of unsafe ingredients. Makeup has certainly been something I’ve swept under the rug in my general mission to clean up and detox the things we buy for home, health and beauty. When I saw Lisa’s message, “Without a doubt what we put on our bodies is just as important as we put into our bodies,” I knew this was a good fit for me to explore alternative makeup and for the hip homie community. (Hey dudes, usually things I feature here are pretty gender neutral, and makeup certainly can be depending on your level of adventure.)
Simple Beauty Minerals makeup and skincare products are designed for sensitive skin using primarily vegan & gluten free ingredients (95%). They are very choosey and transparent about the ingredients that go into making their products so people can understand what they are putting on their skin and face and feel confident in choosing nourishing products made from 100% natural ingredients.
Additionally, Simple Beauty Minerals products are handcrafted in the U.S. by women-owned, artisan businesses. Supporting Simple Beauty Minerals means supporting a small, indie company that supports other women and is growing organically by word of mouth.
As a policy, Simple Beauty Minerals does not photoshop or photo edit/adjust their models. They believe in real faces and ask supporters to post pictures of themselves wearing Simple Beauty Minerals products with the hashtag #DontTouchThatUp
I tried three products from SBM, a mineral lipstick and liner and their Embellish Anti-Aging Mineral Night Treatment. I don’t typically wear makeup, and when I do it’s just lipstick. For TV appearances, I’ve had the same finishing powder for years (which makes me think I should probably pitch it) and sometimes I pull out the mascara. Au naturele is my m.o. and I love having lipstick to feel instantly made up.
Here’s my own before and after picture, one with no added minerals and the other with my mineral boost from the three products described below. I like the thought that I’m wearing a powder that is working magic on my skin vs. just covering things up and possibly gunking things up. And this lipstick/liner experience is wonderful. It’s long-lasting, doesn’t crack off and the ingredients make me feel better about wearing it proudly in proximity to the food I eat. I sometimes like to wear just liner (colored in over the full lip) and this liner would be an excellent choice for that. I’ll be purchasing these in the future when this complimentary stash runs out!
Here’s some information from Simple Beauty Minerals’ website about the products I tried:

Embellish Anti-Aging Mineral Night Treatment
You may apply Embellish in the morning, as a primer before your mineral makeup, as a Finish Powder, OR you may apply it at night, as a nighttime mineral treatment, after cleansing and moisturizing your skin. We recommend using it as a nighttime treatment to reap its full benefits. With continued use, it can help establish an even skin tone.
To Use: Cleanse, tone and moisturize your face. Then simply pick up a small amount of the powder on your powder brush or kabuki brush and buff onto face for skin that appears younger!
Ingredients: Mica (for giving a soft, light-diffused look), Microscopic Prisms (diffuse light and fill in wrinkles, for a smoother, younger looking face), Colloidal Minerals, Vitamins A and C (to enhance the appearance of your skin and restore what time and stress take away), Green Tea Extract (antioxidant for younger looking skin), Mother of Pearl Powder, Pearl Powder and Abalone Shell Powder (used to diffuse light and give a soft-focus finish to the face), Rose Hip Oil (to calm and moisturize the skin), Kojac Acid (to assist in evening out skin tone), Jojoba Oil (anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory)
