Fall foraging
I watch a fabulous two-year-old on Wednesdays who is very into foraging. I’ve shown her the seasonal joys of loquats, mulberries, figs, Mexican plums and flowers galore. We walk around—sometimes she wears her wizard hat—and talk about wild and cultivated garden goods.
(Their family planted their very first herb and veggie garden last month, too!)
Yesterday we met a man named Billy out on a walk with his pup, Danny Boy. He directed us around the corner to his burgeoning pecan tree and we stuffed the stroller with as many as we could find. My charge, who I was informed wouldn’t try them previously, found them delicious!
We also found this gem. A pomegranate!
What kinds of things are you foraging this time of year where you live?
