Holla NYC canners/preservers/picklers!
I’m looking for some folks to sidle up to for a canning party, but it looks like New Yorkers are busily surviving (and not hosting canning parties.)
I’ve never canned a thing in my life and would like to watch and see how it’s done, some good ol’ participant observation. I have a great space in Brooklyn for hosting the party, but no official equipment. If you bring equipment over to me, or you decide I’m not a weirdo and invite me over to watch one of your canning endeavors, I’ll bring you something cannable, pickleable, or preserveable…
At some point in the future I’m going to purchase my own canning equipment; in the meantime, I would love to discuss (over that popping sound of lids sealing) your favorites or suggestions to avoid when it comes to equipment.
The tally so far of my fellow preservers (who’re letting me come over and watch):
- Jam maker mama
- Prospect Heights picklers (who will be canning tomatoes with me)
- ????
I have a book, The Ball Blue Book guide to preserving, and I’ll do my homework before I come over. But I’d rather have camaraderie in the Canvolution.
